This is the fifth level in Rocket Spelling. The words in this level all have a short u sound in them. All of the words in this level either begin with the letter u and then have one consonant (us, up) or follow a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern (CVC) with u as the vowel.

In addition to practicing short u sounds, ten different consonant sounds are each represented in at least one of these words. This gives students an excellent chance to practice individual consonant sounds on this level as well.

A student who completes this level and has also completed the four previous levels (1-1 to 1-4) has now practiced all five of the short vowel sounds!
