After we studied the ar and or patterns in the previous level, we now turn our attention to the er, ir, and ur patterns. The obvious problem is that all three of those R-controlled vowels sound the same. This is where visual memory is going to be a student's primary method of attack!
One additional observation: it is common for students to spell a word like bird as brid -- meaning they have the visual piece in place but no understanding of the ir sound. Hopefully this level can remedy that.
