In this level, we begin with verbs that end with a consonant and then the letter y (such as cry). For those verbs, when we want to add an -ing ending to them, they act normally (cry becomes crying).

However, when we want to put them in the past tense, we must first change the y to an i before adding the -ed ending. So cry becomes cried instead of cryed. This rule-breaking pattern is not true for verbs ending in a vowel and then a y; they behave normally (so enjoy becomes enjoyed, not enjoied).
