Why No Grade Levels?
When creating Rocket Spelling, we purposely decided not to break the site up into separate grade levels. Our hope was that students would be able to work on differentiated spelling practice at their own pace without worrying about whether they were "ahead" or "behind" of words that we had designated were at a specific grade level.
We've received some requests, however, for suggested levels that students in different grades should especially focus on. We also had inquiries about seeing a master list of the 1,200 words used on Rocket Spelling. To answer both of these inquiries, over the next week many of our blog posts will focus on listing out all of our words along with possible grade level breakdowns of when a teacher might use them. We still think it's best for students to progress through the various Rocket Spelling levels without an official grade level being listed on them, but we think it might be helpful to some teachers and parents to see all 1,200 Rocket Spelling words written out in a systematic way.
We'll start with kindergarten lists tomorrow!
